Where should you download the Windows Demo?
Use the creator's official itch.io project. The current download is a compressed archive, not a browser game. Avoid repacked executables and “fixed” mirrors because their files and version cannot be checked against Gilang's release.
Download the complete archive, extract it into a normal local folder, and launch the executable from that extracted folder. Do not run it inside the archive preview.
Why does the Demo fail after moving the executable?
Unity Windows builds normally ship as a group of files. Keep the executable beside the supplied data folder, libraries and other archive contents. Moving only the executable can leave dialogue, scenes or engine files unavailable.
If files were mixed between releases, move that copy aside and extract a fresh official archive into a new folder. Do not overwrite a partial old folder and assume every component updated.
Do you need to run it as administrator?
No. The creator's July 14 devlog says the updated Demo no longer needs administrator access. Do not grant elevated access to an old download just to reproduce Nate's fourth-wall closing behavior.
If Windows security blocks the file, first confirm the exact official source and scan the downloaded archive. Do not disable system-wide protection. Report the exact warning to the creator if the current official build remains blocked.
What if dialogue freezes or the edges flicker?
The July 18 official bug fix addressed dialogue not triggering, freezing after a loss and flickering around the screen edges. Re-download the current build before applying advice from an older playthrough.
If the issue remains in a fresh copy:
- Restart the Demo and reproduce the same choice once.
- Record whether the freeze occurs before a round, after a loss or during a request.
- Note the Windows version, display resolution and whether fullscreen was active.
- Capture the visible win, loss and Mood state without sharing private system data.
- Report the version or download date on the official project page.
Why does the game react when you close it?
The official page says Nate can notice an attempt to close the game. That is an intentional fourth-wall element, not by itself evidence of malware. The developer later reduced the behavior and removed the administrator requirement.
Use normal Windows controls if the current application needs to close. If the process genuinely remains after the window disappears, record the behavior and report it rather than installing an unofficial patch.
Why did reinstalling not reset the loop counter?
The July 12 devlog says the Windows save is stored in the Registry, so deleting the extracted game folder may leave progress intact. Do not delete unknown Registry keys: an incorrect change can affect unrelated software.
Until the creator documents an exact current reset method, preserve the progress or ask for the supported key. The loops and exit guide explains the verified behavior in more detail.
Safe Windows checklist
- Confirm the official itch.io URL.
- Download the newest full archive.
- Extract every file into a new local folder.
- Keep the executable and supplied files together.
- Run without administrator access.
- Reproduce the issue once and record the exact step.
- Never use third-party repacks or delete unknown Registry data.
For release-specific fixes, review the Demo update history. If the game runs but the route is unclear, start with the spoiler-free guide.
